Welcome back to the ol’ US of A! We’re here for a total of 47 days…..47 days of Bay Area weather…..47 days of access to amazing Asian food…..47 days of living in a hotel…..47 days of a whole different life. We figured this first week would be about getting settled in. While Berne went to work (for ten hours a day!) KoKo took care of the other stuff: renting a car, buying groceries (our hotel room has a kitchen), joining a gym to help pass the time and preserve her sanity.
There was a night out, dinner with Berne’s new boss was fun and a late one. And a day when KoKo brought lunch to the office and got to meet everyone. They were all very nice and a little shy, as engineers tend to be.
We got settled into our temporary house, a Marriott Residence Inn, and settled into a regular daily routine. We got Netflix. After a week of work, gym, macrame (one of several sanity measures KoKo was employing), Netflix, sleep we were fairly tired, and a little cranky from spending so much time apart. That may have been the biggest transition, going from spending 24 hours a day together, all your waking hours, to only a couple waking hours a day sucks. Turns out we really enjoy each other’s company.
Halfway through the week KoKo got an offer to join Berne at work, turns out they could use both of our skill sets! Everyone was excited about this. Being able to spend more time together, and getting KoKo out of the hotel more could only be a good thing right?
On the weekend we drove into San Francisco for a quick loop. It was only a quick loop because our friends who live in the area warned us if we park anywhere we should leave the car unlocked with the windows down to keep it from getting broken into. Yikes. Apparently car break-ins are high in the whole Bay Area, and we shouldn’t leave anything in the car ever. Double yikes. The rest of the weekend was spent recovering from the week and getting ready for the week to come, which included Asian foot massages.
