Two Tone Tacos Travels

We don’t know what we’re doing, we’re just trying to have fun!

Guatemala Summary

WE LOVE GUATEMALA!! Maybe because we spent so much time here, maybe because its full of nice people, amazing landscapes and fantastic food. We had a great time here, and would absolutely come back to vacation here.

Ok, let’s get into the stats!

Days in Country: 38, but should’ve been way less

Miles Driven: 1804

Nights spent indoors: 11

Things we weren’t expecting: Once again there were not nearly as many bugs as we were expecting to find. The food was fantastic, and the produce was phenomenal! Speaking of food, the eggs were really good. KoKo does NOT like Mexican or Belizean eggs, but Guatemalan eggs were great! And gas was cheaper, which is always a win. There were so many US chain fast food restaurants, that was very unexpected. There is a really strong automotive, and especially truck culture in Guatemala, so people were EXCITED to see the truck. One guy got out of his truck to run over to us at a gas station, it was pretty cool.

Things we didn’t enjoy: Wide spots to pull over on the highway were almost non-existent, this was not our favorite since Berne likes to use them for smoke and bathroom breaks. Every hike was straight up hill, no switchbacks! Google maps kept trying to take us on short cuts down tiny roads we didn’t fit through, this got old really fast. There was a lot of car pollution and it set off KoKo’s sinuses something fierce.

Some things we recommend:

Acatenango. The hike was so hard, but the views of Fuego erupting were like nothing we’ve seen before. 15/10, still cant believe we got to see this.

Tikal was incredible, and mind blowing. 12/10, would go again

Semuc Champey was very beautiful

Lake Atitlan was such a great place to relax

Honestly, the whole country was fantastic
