From our map, it’s pretty obvious we only crossed the border into Uruguay to be able to say we’ve been to Uruguay. There is so much of this country left to explore! We only ventured an hour from the border crossing. Overall the roads were great, and the people seemed very friendly.
Days in Country: 5
Miles Driven: 129 miles. This will probably be the fewest miles spent in any single country on our trip.
Nights spent indoors: 0
Things we weren’t expecting:
When we crossed the border, there was a sign saying “watch for Capybaras”, and then we saw them sitting on the side of the road just past the sign! The wildlife was at the wildlife sign!!! There were so, so many types of birds. The area we visited was largely a wetland, so this makes sense.
Things we didn’t enjoy:
It was pretty expensive, which is saying something, coming from Argentina. Gas was $8/gallon, which was a large part of why we didn’t get too far from the border. Groceries were expensive as well. The only thing that wasn’t was the campground, and that was because it was low season.
Some things we recommend:
We really only went to the one spot, and it seemed pretty decent: Termas del Arapey

How we got here:
