Paraguay was a hard country…not because it was terrible, but because we were trapped there waiting for parts the entire time, both times we were there. We came here because we broke down in Argentina, and it would’ve been terrible expensive to get help there, so we left.
Days in Country: 38
Miles Driven: 1112
Nights spent indoors: 9
Things we weren’t expecting:
Berne LOVED the city of Asuncion. He was very down with the vibe. KoKo didn’t get it. Generally, it was much, much cheaper than Argentina, which was nice. The dominant American chains are Burger King (yay!) and Pizza Hut (boo!). The people are extremely helpful, and seem to be genuinely happy.
Things we didn’t enjoy:
There is very little wild space in this country. Its all farm and ranch land. Literally. Very similar to Europe. Puffy toilet seats are the standard, so gross! We prefer the “no toilet seat” in the rest of Latin America over the puffy toilet seat. Paraguay also has the worst empanadas of our entire trip. Which may not be entirely accurate, we had just come from Argentina, where they had the best empanadas…
Some things we recommend:
O’ Gaucho: The food is fantastic, and it was a nice break from waiting for parts

Casa Oriental: Some of the best Chinese food we’ve had this trip

The campground that had a monkey we got to play with is probably the highlight:
