Two Tone Tacos Travels

We don’t know what we’re doing, we’re just trying to have fun!

Day 65: Jan 9, 2024

ODO: 306,618

We packed up and continued north heading from Rancho Conejo to Bahia de Concepción. We spent a night at Armenta before deciding to explore around the bottom and opposite side of the bay. Half way around the other side Berne started to feel under the weather, so we headed back to a campsite at the bottom of the bay so he could rest. We were excited about this spot, it was on the beach, there were pelicans everywhere, and a previous occupant had left us a pile of firewood. Unfortunately the wind kicked up something fierce, and Berne’s tummy felt worse, so we hunkered down inside the camper to wait out both.

We ended up staying there for 3 days. The wind got worse and worse, and Berne got worse and then, thankfully better. All the hiding from the wind gave us time to look back at 2023, and how much we did over that past year. Here are some highlights:

  • 118 nights of camping, 114 of them in our new camper. Most of those days were planning and testing out and revising the interior of the camper.
  • 9 months of furious buying and returning things for the camper. Along with tons of wood working, fabricating, painting and wiring.
  • 2 jobs left behind. One we were happy to see go, the other was sad.
  • 1 insane month of moving out of our house. Some days it felt like we weren’t going to make it, but we toughed it out.
  • 1 month on the road moving into our new home, and throwing away all of the extra things we brought but quickly discovered we didn’t need or want.
  • 1 Baja 1000 win

Once Berne was back in moving shape, we continued on to San Ignacio. The plan was to spend one night and move on, but we found a great campground with awesome showers, where they did our laundry, and a fun neighbor, so we spent 2 nights. Our new neighbor had been fishing his way south and north, so he brought over way too much Yellow Tail and boxed Costco wine, and we had a lovely evening. He also brought us some cinnamon rolls he had bought for the family that owned a different campground, but he had gotten lost trying to find it and ended up camped with us. Berne fried them up with butter for breakfast, and our new friend was pretty excited.

Being at elevation (500ft, LOL), made San Ignacio the coldest place we had been so far, and we were able to make good use of our heater both nights. We also met several new dogs, and another awesome couple from Canada (truth be told, every campground is STUFFED with Canadians this time of year) before we continued north again to start a week of fishing and beach touring.
