Two Tone Tacos Travels

We don’t know what we’re doing, we’re just trying to have fun!

Day 23: Nov 28, 2023

Our first day of “relaxing” was spent in town getting groceries and water while having our laundry done. This was our first time filling out water tank at a purificada, and besides trying to roll my ankle off a very tall curb, it went great! Super fast and super cheap. We rounded out our day in town with lunch and a show, and then we headed back to one of our favorite beaches to start actual relaxing. Our first night was weird, we woke up to the sound of 4 donkeys scrambling down one hillside, horsing around on the beach, and then climbing up the hill on the other side of the beach.

On the advice of another couple living on the beach, we did some snorkeling right off the beach, and they were right, it was amazing. The water was crystal clear and the current was low so we got to see everything. Lots of tiny striped fish, starfish and pufferfish swam around the rocks and reef. People fishing from the beach pulled out Dorado and something else with a lot of teeth. We swam and snorkeled so much we almost got used to getting stung by the tiny invisible jellyfish that would float by on the current from time to time. Almost.

We kayaked around the point, which is out in the open ocean, which is terrifying for me. Feeling the water swell and roll underneath my tiny kayak is really unsettling, but how much I love being in the water usually wins out over how scared I feel. We could see various sizes of fish swimming around and under us while we paddled, the water was so clear. We kayaked across the other bay to the small restaurant for chips and salsa and a beer. The only other food they served was fish and “meat”.

When we weren’t in the water, we were unpacking and putting away the three giant bags of stuff we didn’t manage to get organized before we left home. This was a multi-day affair because, packing and organizing sucks. It’s slightly better on a lovely beach, but still not my favorite. We also hiked up the hills on either side of the beach for better views, and both were very worth it. We spent a lot of time napping, going to bed early (which is super easy when darkness falls at 6pm), and waking up to see the sunrise.

Our last day on the beach was spent making friends with a nice couple from Vancouver Island that owns a tugboat, and watching a large pod of dolphins swim past. Oh, and swimming and packing up. It was sad to drive away from our favorite beach, but this is how we potentially find a more favoriter beach, so on to the next one!
