Two Tone Tacos Travels

We don’t know what we’re doing, we’re just trying to have fun!

Uruguay Round 2 Summary

Well, we did not think we would be back to Uruguay…But this is what happens when you figure it out on the fly. This time around was much different than our first time, mostly because we knew it was the end of our trip, and we were tired. So very, very tired. And the truck was in very bad shape. There were a lot of complicated feelings, and a lot of logistics that happened here. The best part of Uruguay, for us, was that it was an easy, kind of boring country, so no extra stress.

Days in Country: 19

Miles Driven: 416

Nights spent indoors: 5

Things we weren’t expecting:

We thought Chile and Argentina were Western feeling, compared to Uruguay they are not at all! This country was incredibly clean, and extremely Western. Like people obeyed the rules of the road 100% of the time here, Western. It was extremely easy to navigate around in all aspects: the food was familiar, the other drivers, everyone speaks English. hey also have pretty beaches, but we almost never saw anyone in the water, which always feels concerning. This was the other place the Mercader projection really got us. Everything in this country is only a few hours from anything else. A very welcome change from Brazil.

Things we didn’t enjoy:

Uruguay has the worst wine of any country in South America, which was surprising with them being so close to Argentina. As nice as it was to have the “other crazy drivers” stress gone, we found it a generally boring country. Or maybe we got so used to being on high alert, we didn’t know what to do without the constant threat of car accident. There didn’t seem to be anything native to Uruguay, everything was a European import. We didn’t even come across a native language or evidence of there ever being a native population here, which seemed odd and disingenuous. We really struggled to have fun here, partly because of all the order, partly because the truck was broken.

Some things we recommend:

Honestly, this country was really boring, really manicured, and just really meh for us. We felt like we had to put in effort to find things of interest to check out, and what we did find felt too staged.
